Oh my what a trying few weeks this has been. I think we went straight into summer around here! We have already been hauling hay from a friends barn and getting ready to get into the hay fields. Our flowers just aren't blooming like they were last year. The pretty little pink Shamrocks by the back porch are the only flowers that seem to be enjoying this Spring. Our Cherry tree did not bloom well either, nor the Apple Trees. It has been so hot already." Big Kitten" , yes the fat cat above, just gets lazier and lazier. And fatter and fatter. I picked up a crochet hook for the first time in a looooooong time the other night when I could not sleep. I am so out of practice as you can tell by my crummy stitches. The Twins are doing really well. Can't seem to keep them out of the mud.
A noticed some Crows carrying on something awful late one afternoon and the cows were looking at one of the pasture fences. I went down to see what the ruckus was about and it was a poor Great Horned Owl that thought he was stuck in the fence. I called my neighbors boy that works for the county Animal Control to come help me ( I couldn't be on both sides of the fence at the same time). He held open a Dog Carrier while I backed the owl out of the fence. Poor thing didn't know he could just back up. He was very, very weak and as you can see only has one eye. Owls do not drink. They get their fluids from what they eat. But I could tell he was dehydrated, so I used a straw and got some Distilled Water in him. I called a friend at the Department of Natural Resources ( aka Game Warden). He gave me another number to call. That guy emailed me a list of LICENSED Predator Rehabilitators in the State of Georgia. The nearest one to me is located in Blue Ridge Georgia. They said they would take him in if I could bring him over there the next morning. I said I would be there when they opened. I put him in a small chain link dog lot. He went into the back corner of the dog house and shut his eyes. I am very sad to say that he did not make it until morning. I called to see if I needed to still take him over to Blue Ridge, but they said I could just bury him. Poor guy. He has lived in one of our barns for years. I will miss hearing him.
